Surrounding Yourself with a Strong Community Contributes to Your Overall Success

If you’re serious about success and achieving your goals in 2022, it’s critically important to take a look at the people you surround yourself with. The people around you can either hold you back or help propel you forward. It’s up to you.

Last week, I was listening to an interview with a gentleman on a podcast, and he said something so fascinating, specifically, “Be mindful of your lower companions.” It was an adage he’d learned through Alcoholics Anonymous and it became a tool for reaching his dreams.

I know that sounds really elitist and maybe a little judgmental or pessimistic, but he was referring to the idea that we are a reflection of the people that we spend most of our time with. So if you spend time with people that are really negative, that are really unhappy, that are jealous, or that like making other people miserable, their behavior can seriously affect you. If the people around you constantly complain or don’t take 100% responsibility for their lives, their behavior will inevitably have an impact on you, too.

Your circle determines your level of success

Your social circle has an unbelievable effect on your success. If you are surrounding yourself with lower companions, you likely won’t feel supported in your dreams or encouraged to succeed. The negativity or unhappiness in the people around you can really drag you down, regardless if you feel that same negativity on your own. I’m not saying you have to cut every negative person out of your life, but if you want to succeed, it’s important to be mindful of the energies of those around you.

One way to begin building a supportive, success-oriented community is to get a coach, get a mentor, or get accountability partners. Create a community around yourself of like minded people that want to achieve, people who want to live their dreams, who don’t want to just settle for what they’re giving, but who really want to get what they want. These people can inspire you, hold you accountable, and encourage you to achieve.

If you are able to create that kind of community around yourself, you will watch your life change.

Creating a success-oriented community doesn’t need to be a drastic change. Your community can include the people that you talk to every day, whether it’s on a zoom call or in person. Even if all you do is check in with an encouraging friend every day, you are still intentionally building a community that can help you reach your goals.

I encourage you to build this type of community because it has worked wonders for me. Surround yourself with people that are like-minded and really want to succeed, and you will succeed too because that’s 100% how it works.

What about you? I’d love to hear your stories about building communities or conversely, your struggles with “lower companions.”
