Introduction 0:00 Welcome to work mom says, Unknown Speaker 0:03 Don't be an idiot. Unknown Speaker 0:05 And now here's your host. Work mom. Unknown Speaker 0:11 Thank you for joining me for another episode of work mom says, we are back after a short hiatus, I'm going to be really honest with you and tell you that I had a traumatic event happened back in September I was triggered to into this just horrible stressed out crazy place by something that happened at an event. And I was down for the count, it was emotionally devastating. And while I kept things going, I kept the office running in the work going, I took a break from things that were really important to to dig into some of this stuff that came up. And and he'll and I wanted to be really open about that. Because I don't think we talk enough about mental health in our business communities. Mental health is really important. Any of us who came from trauma and when I say trauma, how do I explain it, I mean, things like maybe you had a medical emergency, when you were a child, maybe you were hospitalized when you were three or four years old, maybe you maybe one of your siblings died or a grandparent died at a time in your life that, you know, triggered something that that scares you or that, you know, somehow you created a belief about that experience that now affects you as an adult. It's so true that the things that we go through as human beings, as children, affect our behavior and our anxiety levels, our mental health. As adults, it's proven. There's this thing called the ACES score, which is I believe it stands for adverse childhood experiences. And people who have experienced, you know, two or three or even won in some cases of these adverse experiences, have health issues, as adults have mental health issues, have regular health issues. That wouldn't seem to be related to mental health, but it's all tied together. So I wanted to be really open and really honest about you know, where I've been, I took, you know, three, four months off. And it was a really important time. And I learned a lot about myself, and I'm coming back in this, you know, this year a lot stronger. So I wanted to share some things that worked for me and have gotten me moving in the right direction for my business, in case they're helpful to you. They're things that you can apply generally in your life, or you can apply them to your career. Lots of different things. So first thing in 2021, I joined an accountability group actually joined two accountability groups. Because one of the things that was really missing for me was the consistent daily habits that would get me to the goals that I wanted to achieve. And what I did was, there's a group that Jan Griffiths runs called the accountability lab. And every morning at 7076 10 of us get on a call. And we make a commitment for a personal goal, a professional goal, and a word of the day. And then we come back the next day, and we talk about how we did the day before. And we set another set of goals, and another word for the day. And we do that five days a week. And overtime. It's so interesting how that little bit of attention on your intentions can be life changing. Since I started that group. I went from working on the sofa to working in an office. I went from, you know being a lot less organized. In my morning routine, I kind of sat on the couch and watched my favorite Gayle King on CBS Morning News. But I didn't get anything done. And I didn't set myself up for success. And about a year and a half ago, I started following Benjamin Hardy. And this is the second thing I'm going to recommend that you do to really meet your goals for this year. I started a course that Benjamin Hardy has out there called 30 days to your future self. And what it does is it really helps you get crystal clear on where do you want to be in five years. What do you want to be Who do you want to be? How do you want to show up? And I visualized something really crystal clarity as you you know, get it down to like a sentence. So it's really easy to remember. And that extra exercise that 30 days of focusing every day on what I really wanted out of life. Made it moving forward. A lot less tolerable to do the things that didn't support that vision. Unknown Speaker 5:05 And I've talked about vision before. But I want to come back to it because a lot of people really don't understand how powerful we are as human beings. We create our own realities. Whatever we do every day creates our life and the results that we get. And somehow, a lot of us don't make that connection. I've sat on the sofa and watched Gayle King and CBS News for an hour, hour and a half every morning, for 10 years, get up early, watch the news, get in the shower, go to work, and almost didn't realize well didn't realize the disfavor I was doing to myself, by not taking that same time and energy and putting it into something that would be helpful to me, and helped me reach the goals I want to reach. Now, I'm not saying I wasn't successful, and I'm not saying I didn't get things done. But I wasn't in the place I am now where I really see where I want to go. And I'm getting there. I set that goal probably a year and a half ago, something like that, your your couple of months. And since then, our business has just skyrocketed. We're, you know, we've grown our sales by like 75%, we have just changed so many things in our lives. From you know, the pandemic started at about that time. So we've gotten through the pandemic, without a lot of emotional drama, without a lot of trauma without a lot of unnecessary angst about what was happening. Because we focused on what we wanted, we focused on staying out of the weeds staying out of the negative, you know, stuff online, and just creating a new life for ourselves inside our four walls. And you really do get to create what your life and what your results are. And I remember reading something by Jack Canfield, he has a book called The Success Principles and he talks about you are 100% responsible for your life, and the results that you're getting every day. And a lot of us don't want to claim that responsibility. But once you do, the really cool thing about it is you can create a vision, chase it and get it because you're taking 100% responsibility for your life. So it's a double, you know, kind of a double edged thing there. But once you you see what you want, and you really understand it and get that vision, it's really helpful to goal setting and, and then achieving the things that you want out of your life and out of your career. So the last thing I'm going to talk about today is coaching. One of the things that I've done and seen just monumental results that you can do anytime in your career, is get a coach, get a mentor, get accountability partners, create a community around yourself, of people that are like minded people that want to achieve people who want to live their dreams who don't want to just settle for what they're giving, but who really want to get what they want. And I'll tell you, I was listening to something earlier today. And I thought it was just fascinating because it was an interview with a gentleman on a podcast. And he said Be mindful of your lower companions. Stay away from lower companions. And that sounds really, really elitist. Maybe Unknown Speaker 8:59 pessimistic, you know, judgmental, but what he was referring to was that any and all of us are a reflection of the people that we spend most of our time with. So if you spend time with people that are really negative, that are really unhappy that like making other people miserable, that complain, that aren't taking 100% responsibility for their lives that are out there, you know, maybe they're heavy into an addiction instead of dealing with their problems. Maybe they would rather complain, then work on the relationship they have with their mom, those kinds of people, this guy referred to as lower companions. And I found that so fascinating. So I the last. The last point here is just create community around yourself and watch your life change the community that you surround yourself with the people that you talk to every Day, whether it's on a zoom call or whether it's you know, in person or, you know, you check in with a girlfriend every day, whatever it is that you do, surround yourself with people that are like minded and that really want to succeed. And you will succeed too, because that's kind of how it works. So welcome to 2022 We're back.
